I have a car that let’s me know how much oil life is left. When it get’s to less than 5%, I get a signal on the dash. This gives me adequate time to plan an oil change before any damage occurs. There’s a reset button which can bypass this notification and make it look like an oil change has been done when it hasn’t. Doing so could mean disaster. At any time I can check oil life, and address maintenance as I desire.
Not being born with trouble lights, we have to understand how our body talks to us. Body pain with weather changes may be one of these warning signs signaling “maintenance required.” Changes in pulse, blood pressure, urinary frequency, dizziness, or any number of changes in your wellbeing are signals which should indicate a need to look under the hood.
Unfortunately we’ve been conditioned into thinking that taking this or that medication to clear these symptoms is responsible medicine. That’s like cutting the wire to the warning light or hitting the reset button without actually changing oil, believing we’ve solved the problem.
If you’re anything like me, that really makes no sense at all. These symptoms are your friends, not your enemy. When experience inflammation in the body, it’s a pretty obvious symptom of imbalance. Taking an Advil or Tylenol hasn’t fixed the problem. The symptom may be gone, but the fire is still burning up the building. The damage continues with a more serious outcome later. This could involve joint replacement down the road.
Identifying symptoms and addressing them with proper treatment has the potential of allowing you to live a long, more trouble free life. Most symptoms we may experience are the result of missing proper nutrition or the consumption of improper substances. Case in point are the grand mal seizures I experienced as a youth, due to consumption of an artificially sweetened soda pop.
Thankfully, the naturopathic physician I eventually saw recognized the cause and instead of using the medically accepted protocol of anti-seizure medicines, addressed the imbalance in my system, leaving me free of any signs or symptoms of epilepsy. Because my father refused to blindly accept the diagnosis given by the medical main-stream, I’ve had over fifty years of freedom from any kind of seizure activity, without having to take any medication whatsoever for it.
The symptoms were evaluated with the intent of finding the root cause, and addressing it. In my case, it was due to consumption of a toxic substance. (Might I add, that all these sugar substitutes are toxic to the human body). Nutritional support was then given to aid in repairing the damage while clearing the causative substance from my tissues.
For the new year, consider learning to listen to your body more, with the intent of being a better steward of the vehicle you have been given. As I’ve said in the past, We are spirit beings, possessing a soul which consists of our mind, will, and emotions, having a physical experience in this vehicle called a body.
Our responsibility is to care for the vehicle in such a manner as to provide it the necessary elements to continue to function flawlessly in spite of the challenges the world throws at us. This involves adequate water to maintain hydration, good clean air intake to provide for proper energy combustion. The best fuel for adequate energy and clean running is critical. Healthy oils are required for lubrication. Exercise and rest round it all out.
Responsibility goes beyond vehicle maintenance and includes how we drive. This is the realm of the soul. Our mind, will, and emotions can either crash the system or protect it.
