It’s hard to perform like a race car on regular fuel. I noticed my neighbor, who races motorcycles uses special fuel in his bikes to get the maximum performance out of them.
In 2006 when I took Dr Savelle and Chariots of Light through Washington state, we stopped in Monroe for ministry and Pastor Jeff Knight of Rock Church took us the next morning to his garage to fire up his NASCAR. The smell of high performance fuel was overwhelming.
To win races, it’s critical we’re running on the best grade of fuel or we’ll be left at the back of the pack. This is very evident among athletes who are serious about their performance and longevity. Tom Brady is a prime example of this as he’s devoted to his diet and his health. This is why he’s had such a long, injury free career.
Some athletes adhere to what’s called carb loading so they’ll have the fuel to expend large amounts of energy quickly. That may work to a degree for the short haul, but over time, if not replenished, the associated nutrients required to metabolize this, get depleted and metabolic functions begin to fail. This is very evident in the disease of diabetes. When we’re no longer capable of combusting the sugars in the blood stream, they build up and our bodies response to this is to burn them in the form of inflammation wherever they land.
The most common physical response to this kind of inflammation involves the liver creating more of the LDL cholesterol to coat these damaged areas. There’s a good analogy between this and running alcohol in your fuel and how it begins to deteriorate hoses, gaskets, and other areas of your engine, requiring you to make repairs which wouldn’t be required if you avoided the alcohol in your fuel to begin with. This is why I like to choose ethanol free gas for my vehicles when available.
For the athlete expending massive amounts of energy, burning this excess of carbohydrates isn’t as big an issue. For us who are far more sedentary, clearing this excess becomes a problem. When we consider farmers who worked from before sun up to after sun down, working hard, they required greater amounts of calories to function, but usually ate balanced meals consisting of healthy fruits, vegetables, meats, and fats. They were usually lean, strong, and healthy.
The bulk of grains consumed in the past were unadulterated, non-GMO, and still containing healthy fats in the germ, and B vitamins in the bran. The grains of the past were grown on mineral rich soils without massive amount of agricultural chemicals. These foods provided the added nutrients required to process carbohydrates efficiently.
Unfortunately most foods delivered to our population are grown on depleted soils with only three to six of the essential minerals our body requires to function efficiently. For this reason, to remain healthy we need to supplement our diets with whole food nutrition, grown in nutrient rich soils, and not adulterated by refining and excessive processing.
Not everyone has the luxury of raising an organic garden, being able to grow the healthiest of foods. It’s also important to have access to a good organic farmer who maintains healthy animals, void of antibiotics for your meats. Seafood is a good choice for increased performance, being wild caught in clean waters is important.
Like all things in life, what we put in our bodies boils down to choices. Are we moved by our taste buds or by wisdom? Where we get our information is important. We can obtain lots of data from the internet, but how much of it is valid? Especially when places like Facebook can sensor it.
When we study nature and how plants and animals function we get a clearer grasp of what’s real. There are multilevel marketing companies coming and going constantly with huge claims, but how often the hype fades away as so many claims go unfulfilled. The answer is real, whole food!!!
