All of these foods find their way into my smoothie every morning. If I wasn’t obtaining them from organic sources, my healthy smoothie would actually be a toxic and detrimental morning cocktail. Knowing what foods are good for you isn’t enough. You need those without toxic additives.
Pyrethroid pesticides cause abnormalities in the dopamine system, producing what’s known as an ADHD phenotype. Of 687 children from 8-15 years of age, those with urinary 3-BHP above the level of detection were twice as likely to have ADHD compared with those below detection.
Hyperactive impulsive symptoms increased by 50% for every 10 fold increase in 3-BPA levels.
A strictly organic diet, consumed for one week significantly reduced OP (organophosphate) pesticide exposure in adults as measured by urinary metabolites. Total OP metabolites in the organic phase were 89% lower than when eating conventional foods. Although done on adults, similar tests have shown the same results in children.
The use of OP pesticides, both residential and agricultural, has increased in recent decades. There’s an abundance of evidence that they impact neurodevelopment and behavior in adults and children. Exposure prenatally in many studies has shown a negative effect on mental development, and an increase in attention problems in preschool and school children. What we choose to feed our children and ourselves ultimately affect every aspect of our lives.
Chemical exposure during fetal development has been associated with low birth weight, preterm delivery, degreased fetal growth, birth defects, pregnancy loss, and developmental delays. Depending on the time of exposure in fetal development, various endocrine disrupters can have variable levels of impact. Occasionally very small amounts at critical times of development can have diabolical responses.
In ten newborns, an average of 200 industrial chemicals and pollutants were found. Of the 287 total chemicals detected, 180 cause cancer in humans or animals, 217 are toxic to the brain and nervous system, and 208 cause birth defects or abnormal development in animal tests. This is scary stuff!!
We need to be proactive in the protection of our house. What you allow in, is your responsibility! Proactive living means inquiring where your food is grown. What are the growing practices used to produce your food? Has your food been chemically altered to preserve or enhance the flavors? Have organophosphates been used on your food?
So many of these concerns can be alleviated by avoiding packaged foods, fast foods, GMO, and non organic. Food producers want to provide foods without blemishes, which makes us assume they are more nutritious. Not so.
Avoid the Dirty Dozen. These include Celery, Peaches, Strawberries, Apples, Blueberries, Nectarines, Bell Peppers, Spinach, Kale, Cherries, Potatoes, and imported Grapes. Select certified organic instead. Ask local growers at your local farmers market about how they grow their foods. Best of all, cultivate some soil and grow some food for yourself. Grass looks good, but if you’re not a goat or horse, it won’t feed you. Avoid using garden chemicals and pesticides. Avoid household chemicals.
You can live a cleaner healthier life if you just apply some effort.
