Here in the United States of America we still have more freedoms than in any other nation on earth. That’s what we need to put our focus on. It’s here where we can still worship our creator without threat of persecution. We still are viewed as the place every other person on earth would prefer to be.
When it comes to physical health, the health of our mind, will, and emotions supersedes any food, vitamin, or herb we put in our mouths. We do have many nutritional supports used to deal with depression, anxiety, and fear, but what we dwell on is usually directly related to what we have been putting in our minds.
This comes down to guarding our eyes, not looking at or reading toxic materials. It comes to guarding our ears, and not listening to nay-sayers or those pedaling fear. It comes to guarding what we ourselves are saying, as we hear our own voice louder than any other voices.
We’ve been attacked by a very toxic media which continually is pedaling more and more bad news. There are news outlets which can pump you full of bad news twenty four hours a day, and there are those who indulge in this without realizing what is happening to their minds and their bodies.
A great example of how our thoughts control our physical bodies is seen when going to the doctor and having blood pressure taken. What we term white coat syndrome is when the person is on edge about hearing bad news and this causes what is called a sympathetic response where the body goes into a fight or flight mode, causing the arterial tension to increase, resulting in an elevated blood pressure, in which the person should be cautious about getting put on blood pressure lowering drugs when they don’t ordinarily have elevated blood pressure.
When tension like this is constant because of worry or fear, this response can over time create some real problems. Using a drug or even nutritional supports like calming drugs still isn’t the best answer to the issue. What truly needs to be considered is a change of mind, and this can’t be accomplished as long as the input continues to be the same.
Changing the input means changing what we put our focus on. If we are so wrapped up in what can come from an election, this now becomes the controlling factor in your overall health. I know that sounds hard, but do you think worrying about something is really going to change anything other than your own health?
If things are stressing you out, consider what you can do to change it instead of worrying about it and then opening your mouth and voicing your issues, only to have your own hearing pick it up and compound the issues in your mind.
Our minds do control the biochemistry of our bodies. Sometimes we actually hear of fear and worry preached from the pulpit. Not the congregation I want to attend. We need to seek environments where we are encouraged and uplifted on a regular basis. No one desires to be constantly beaten down. It’s no secret that some of the patients I get to help have come from environments which belittled and shamed them.
The practice of getting together and giving thanks for the wonderful blessings we’ve been given should be much more than just a once a year tradition, but a daily feast on remembering the amazing blessings we’ve been blessed to enjoy.
Yes, all of us have dealt with hard times. this is common to all, but those hard times don’t have to last do they. I often reflect on the explosion which almost killed me forty six years ago. That was a tragic event for sure. The light at the end of the tunnel was getting married to my amazing wife just three weeks later and being able to continue to pursue my career. All could have been lost, but the joy of life after is great. I continually give thanks that I lived and have been able to serve others since.
Returning from Vietnam without PTSD or any other problem is another thing to look back on and give thanks. This should be how we all live our lives, to remember the good and allow the bad to just be a memory which doesn’t maintain a hold on us.
May this holiday season bring love, joy, and peace to all of you. As I count my blessings, my amazing patients are right at the top of the list. I have been blessed to serve you all. This is but a small account of what I'm thankful for. The friend that got me interested in a motorcycle opened a wonderful world with Chariots of Light and the amazing men and women involved there. www.chariotsoflight.com
