Digestion requires energy to be able to receive energy from your food. When defenses are down, more emphasis should be placed on directing the energy you have toward the primary challenge. That is, unless the primary challenge is starvation. Most chronic disease is indeed a condition of starvation. The body isn’t receiving the foundational nutrition to maintain normal function.
Today’s foods are deficient in so many essential nutrients that it’s no wonder we see the increase in diseases like diabetes, arthritis, osteoporosis, and obesity. So, with this in mind, there is a time to increase nutrition, and there is a time to withhold nutrition.
Fasting has been a major player in restoring health to many. We see where fasting is indicated in scripture. This is usually coupled with prayer while immersing oneself in God’s word. Here is where we support the spirit while reducing the control of the flesh.
Unfortunately, dealing with hypoglycemia makes it more difficult to participate in a fast. This is a condition where nutritional deficiency is more the root of the problem. Correcting this condition is important if you truly desire to do some healthy fasting.
It’s a proven fact that if we over-feed our pets it will shorten their life. If we look at ourselves and human metabolism, we see where over eating creates a greater strain on digestion as well as creating liver burden, and eventually obesity and early systemic deterioration. Proper foods in the right amounts can be just what the doctor ordered.
Dr Royal Lee made a statement many years ago that is so very true today. “One of the biggest tragedies of civilization is the precedence of chemical therapy over nutrition. It’s a substitution of artificial therapy over nature, of poisons over food, in which we are feeding people poisons trying to correct the reactions of starvation.” Wow, what insight. And the use of these poisons are so much greater today than back when he made that statement.
Fasting unlocks an interesting activity in the body. Ghrelin is the hormone of hunger. It is secreted from the wall of the stomach, small, and large intestine when empty. It can be said that when the stomach is growling you have ghrelin. Being hungry isn’t a bad thing if utilized properly.
Ghrelin signals a process known as autophagy. Autophagy is a process which allows the orderly degradation and recycling of cellular components. This process is required to assist the body in reducing inflammation. Ghrelin acts as a Cox-2 inhibitor to turn off the inflammatory process, resulting in reducing pain.
Ghrelin promotes gut remodeling, which can do wonders in repairing a condition of leaky gut syndrome. When combined with complimentary herbs, the results can be life transforming. The best time to use these complimentary herbs is when the stomach is growling.
Intermittent fasting can be simply delaying meals long enough to create secretion of adequate ghrelin. An early dinner and late breakfast without snacking in between can be enough to establish notable healing changes.
Since ghrelin creates inhibition of Cox-2 enzymes, the use of fasting can reduce the need for so many of the anti-inflammatory drugs which are heavily abused in today’s society. These drugs are responsible for many inflammation processes which further damage the digestive system.
In fever situations the gut shuts down function. To assist the body and avoid an overload, stopping food entrance by fasting along with colonics to clear the colon, can improve your body’s healing processes. For myself, I’ve found that cleansing the gastrointestinal tract through fasting and having a colonic will turn things around over night.
Look at your food intake. Are you overeating? Is food more of a comfort than a necessity? What foods are you craving, and are you feeding inflammation by your food choices?
