As a Vietnam war veteran, there are many who served along side me who are still reliving the horror they witnessed. Thankfully, on the destroyer which I served, even though we were in the thick of battle, we didn’t witness the travesty of war which many others witnessed.
The fear currently being manifested and magnified by the media over the infectious nature of our present health challenge, I see many hiding in their homes, afraid of going out or being in the presence of other people. That being said, are we going to see another wave of PTSD affecting our population.
As I’ve eluded to many other times, our thought processes intimately affect our health and well-being. Guarding your thought life is critical to maintaining abundant health.
I’ve been told by many that they can’t control their thoughts. That these thoughts come on them and they can’t escape them. To this, I have to remind them that they can redirect their thought life by selectively choosing what they listen to, watch, and especially what they’re saying.
There’s a direct pathway from our mouth to our ears. While you’re speaking, put your fingers in your ears. You’ll notice the volume of your own voice goes up. You hear yourself louder than anyone else. Therefore, you have the power and authority to override what others are saying. To do this, you have to take the lead by not joining in on negative conversations and do some positive speaking.
What we commonly see instead, is that people tend to repeat what they’ve heard, reinforcing any and all negativity going on around them. We shouldn’t be just a lot of myna birds, repeating everything going on around us.
It’s not hard to discover what people have been listening to if we take time to hear what they’re saying. The scripture that says, “out of the abundance of the heart (spirit) the mouth speaks” really sums it up. Where do we get our information? Does that information line up with truth? Is that information intended to inform and educate or to control us and our thoughts? Will that information ultimately create health challenges which endure for a lifetime?
Being selective in what you hear, see, and say can go a long way toward keeping you strong and healthy. As for me, I’m cautious of mainstream news since all this started. You may say that I’m uninformed, but I’d rather say that at least I’m not misinformed. News anchors and Hollywood celebrities aren’t reliable sources of truth. I constantly do extensive research into true facts and not hype.
The Present hostility unleashed against government officials is having a ripple affect back on us as well. Avoiding involvement in the fight is critical to our personal health. Anger and fear are forces which play havoc with our liver, kidneys, adrenal glands and immune status. By getting worked up over anything is like taking off your armor before going into battle. Watch out for biased info.
Another scripture which I love is: (For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.) Have you ever noticed that when a person is caught up in fear that they seldom have anything good to say? They find themselves powerless over the fear, and they certainly aren’t operating with a sound, clear mind.
How have you weathered the present attack on our country? Are you a force of strength and encouragement or are you repeating the negativity, fear, and impending doom, running rampant throughout our nation? Personally, I choose to lift people up and encourage them. We as a nation have encountered numerous challenges to our health, wealth, and emotions throughout history, and we’ve overcome them all. This bump in the road is no different. Let’s get past this and continue to improve out country. Don’t allow yourself to be another PTSD victim.
Avoid listening to or watching what can potentially poison your mind, will, and emotions. Choose your words carefully as they’re the building blocks of either success or failure. Every day we get to choose life or death. As for me and my household, we’re choosing to be light in a dark and fear filled world. By so doing, hopefully we can help others see and experience light as well.
