Since I have to register for Medicare this year, I get an abundance of letters stating I need all these supplemental plans to cover my drug needs. I’m not interested in closing the gate after the horses have escaped. A healthy body needs no drugs!
Since our diets have changed so drastically from years ago, it’s no wonder we see deterioration of the human body. In 1700 the average person in the developed world consumed about 4 pounds of sugar in a year. By the 1800’s this number had climbed to approximately 9 pounds per year. That number today is closer to 150 pounds. Due to the pro-inflammatory nature of sugar, bones are constantly giving up their calcium to put out the fire.
It’s not uncommon to see those who simply can’t live without sugar to be children of a mother that overly indulged in sugar during pregnancy. Very much like fetal alcohol syndrome, sugar craving in kids can come from parental abuse of this substance. This can lead to excessive destruction of the teeth, bones, and eventually to insulin resistance diabetes. Not the kind of life a parent wants for their children. So much of the time, we may not be aware of the long term consequences of many dietary abuses.
Eliminating sugar abuse is something I’d love to make happen, but since it’s not forthcoming, let’s see what we can do in conjunction with reducing the abuse. If you observe the labels of most prepared foods, you’ll find that sugar in some form has usually been added. Therefore, try to prepare as many meals from scratch that you can. Avoid canned, packaged, or frozen foods that are commercially prepared.
To restore the strength and density of your skeleton, consider the use of simple bone broth. This is something which has been a staple for centuries, supporting and maintaining the overall health of the entire body. Just lately, bone broth has enjoyed a great resurgence, as more and more have discovered the many benefits of daily ingestion of this wonderful food.
Since bone broths are extraordinarily rich in protein and minerals needed by bones and the rest of the body, it has the ability to strengthen and support both those with illnesses and those who just want to protect their health. Glycine supports the bodies detoxification process and is used in the production and synthesis of hemoglobin, bile salts and many other naturally-occurring chemicals within the body.
Glycine supports digestion and the secretion of gastric acids. This is an area which is extremely deficient in much of our population. The use of antacids and prevalence of ulcers in our society is far too common. Glycine is inherent in the joint material of the bones, and is released into the broth when bones are slowly cooked. A deficiency of glycine can lead to over-excitability of areas of the brain, leading to convulsions.
Proline, especially when paired with vitamin C, supports good skin health. Collagen, the main fibrous protein found in bone, cartilage, skin, and other connective tissue consists of 21% proline.
Bone broths are rich in gelatin which may support skin health. Gelatin also supports digestive health which is why it plays such a critical role in correcting leaky gut syndrome. This is one of the primary areas where I advocate use of Bone broth, outside of dealing with skeletal issues. You can brew your own with recipes found on line, or you can purchase good quality organic bone broth on line or from an excellent source through us.
