When it comes to what we consume in the way of food and drink, to believe we can consume any old thing and expect to function to our fullest is silly. Eating anything just to fill the stomach is like putting anything in your gas tank just to satisfy the fuel gauge. Anyone with a lick of common sense should see the folly of this. Unfortunately common sense is something our current society has been lacking.
In so many ways, our bodies, right down to cellular structure and function, mimics a country. Just as cell walls are crucial to maintaining the health of the inner components of the cell, a country must maintain boarders to control the health of it’s inner residents.
Cell walls are composed of lipids, (fats). When these lipids are perverted or withheld from the diet, the inner walls can become compromised, allowing internal damage.
Rancid fats as well as those which have been altered by hydrogenation can strip these membranes off or damage them to the point of leaking.
The no fat, low fat mentality has severely injured cell wall structure. Healthy fats like Olive oil, coconut oil, avocado oil, as well as borage seed, flax seed, and black currant seed oils can go a long way toward assisting in the repair of the internal boarder walls.
One of the primary areas where leakage tends to begin is in the area of the the intestines. This condition of leaky gut allows many compounds which haven’t been fully digested to pass into the bloodstream, causing allergic responses.
The issue of leaky gut arises more often then not from the use of antibiotics, destroying the bacterial protectors of the gut lining. This would be like removing the boarder patrol and allowing any and all illegals to pass into the bloodstream, disrupting the healthy activities of the body.
Another primary cause would be from shutting down digestion in the stomach. When proteins aren’t fully broken down in the presence of hydrochloric acid and the enzyme pepsin, these large, undigested protein molecules begin to ferment and rot in this altered internal environment, resulting in the perversion of the intestinal bacteria, which then begins to actually tear down the healthy wall of your internal mucous membranes.
Recovering oneself from damage in this area can be challenging considering many of the causes at this point continue to be in place. One example is that of GERD. When a patient has been using an acid blocker for an extended time, the healthy function of the parietal cells of the stomach, involved in the healthy release of hydrochloric acid, can become atrophied. When this happens, food begins to putrefy in the stomach, causing a build-up of corrosive irritating acid, making withdrawal from these drugs close to impossible.
This is so much like society today. Once the breach has occurred and continued for so long, what can be done to repair the damage and undo the consequences?
First, we need to go back and see what created the damage to begin with. Constant stress can strip valuable minerals from the body. These minerals are required to allow us to pull away from the stress and relax. In a relaxed state, the body can shift into what’s known as parasympathetic mode. This is where digestion functions properly.
During stress, the nervous system goes into the sympathetic mode. This is also known as the fight or flight mode. This shunts energy away from digestion. When this happens, food sits in the stomach without the aid of hydrochloric acid. As it sits there, fermentation sets in with the production of these corrosive acids. Over time this results in damage to the walls of the stomach known as an ulcer. Acid blockers were originally created to be used no more than two weeks to heal the ulcer.
During the process of fermentation in the stomach, gas is produced, forcing the acid up the esophagus. The common approach is to just block production of all acid without taking into account the cause. As long as we ignore the cause and only try to control the affect, we will be chasing diseases the rest of our lives. A breach in digestion leads to all other diseases.
Stress and worry break down the barriers of protection our bodies rely on. Foods which stress the body, like highly refined fats, oils, and carbohydrates need to be removed from the diet. Calming and healing foods help repair and restore the defenses which our bodies come with originally.
As with your vehicle, original equipment is best suited to keeping it running correctly. Removing a gallbladder or bypassing the stomach is truly insane. These measures are like removing a stature because you feel offended by it. Let’s grow up and learn how to relax and digest good food.
