Recently, a dear friend contacted me about a skin condition which had become persistent, failing to yield to what should have cleared it. When this happens, we often lose sight of some of simple things, and begin to look to drugs and expensive gadgets available on the market.
It’s easy to make claims for things across the board without taking into account all the little things which make up health. We’ve been told that we need to maintain an alkaline system, so we see the emergence of devices to make our food or drink more alkaline. When these devices are used apart from normal, we shift from normal and healthy into what could be described as perverted.
Health is maintained in a balanced environment. When we pervert that balance, we create disease, or what I like to call dis-ease, (not at ease). When the body is not at ease, it’s because our metabolism has become strained.
Our body will tap into tissue reserves in bones, muscles, and nerves to maintain the proper pH of our blood. When we overload any area of the system through poor diet, we see various diseases arise. If we analyze blood, the parameters are usually within what could be called normal tolerance. This is because other areas of our body will sacrifice their substance to keep the blood in balance.
One area where serum doesn’t always match tissues is calcium. Your bones and other tissues of your body will give up calcium to keep serum calcium within what should be normal. In cases of pH imbalances, the body will mobilize calcium from the skeleton and release it into the blood to keep the pH within normal parameters. When looking at the serum we may think calcium is good, yet you’re gradually losing the structure of your bones over time to protect the metabolism of your whole body.
In dealing with skin issues where there’s a raging fungal growth, we have to remember that yeast and fungi thrive in an alkaline environment. This is why a sluggish bowel, which promotes an alkaline environment, results in an unchecked growth of candida. Candida is a normal inhabitant in the bowel, and under proper pH levels is not pathogenic. When it’s not under proper pH control by healthy acid loving bacteria, the environment becomes alkaline, allowing the yeast to thrive and morph into an invasive form which can overtake the whole body.
When we look at the residue of simple carbohydrate metabolism, we see where the system can become too acid. What we’ve seen develop over the years, is to take alkalizing substances in an attempt to balance the systemic pH, in lieu of changing the diet. This is the nature of mankind. We don’t want to stop what’s creating the problem, but instead we look for shortcuts to offset the damage.
In my practice I see patients who’ve gone to drinking highly alkaline water, thinking it would be the answer to their problems. This kind of thought isn’t all that new. It’s rumored that Ponce de Leon was looking for water which could change one’s life. Unfortunately, when used improperly without considering the need for acid forming foods in the diet, I’ve seen some really bad outcomes.
As I’ve noted in previous articles, most pathogenic bacteria thrive in an alkaline environment. If we fail to eat balanced, healthy foods providing both healthy acids and alkaline, our system has to correct the difference by mobilizing minerals from the tissues which making up the structure of our bodies. When this happens, we see a result of disease.
In one instance, when it was brought to my attention that alkaline water was the culprit involved in a skin inflammation, we experimented with a little apple cider vinegar on the tissues. There was a burn to begin with followed by relief. Since the fungal growth was dependent on an alkaline environment, the change to acidic stopped the runaway growth. Now the tissues are able to begin the healing process. Since tissues were raw to begin with, there was some initial irritation with vinegar.
In this case we began the consumption of apple cider vinegar to offset the overload of alkalinity. Additional issues of joint pain saw an overnight shift away from the pain with no need for further pain medications. Dr Jarvis talks about his experience where he established his practice in the country where they rarely required a doctor due to consumption of apple cider vinegar and healthy farm grown foods. Before you invest your hard earned money in costly equipment, think about it. Do you need to change your diet first? Many fermented foods provide the good acids your body requires.
