Having patients who’ve said that because of what we’ve done, they’re alive today, is proof enough that the path we’ve traveled, although painful at times, has been divinely directed. It can be difficult to see the final outcome when you’re in the midst of some kind of catastrophe but, as John16 says, be of good cheer, for I have overcome the world. We can embrace that same spirit of overcoming. Thankfulness is one way to reflect on past struggles and see that they don’t have to last.
Many physical diseases we see today are a direct result of continuing to hold on to memories of what may have happened where we were victimized, and have never let go of the pain and suffering. The very fact we’re a living, breathing spirit, having a physical experience in this flesh body means that just taking care of the vehicle, ignoring poor driving habits can end us up in some kind of tragic physical shape.
Most people put more emphasis on caring for the vehicle than they do training the operator. I make emphasis on vehicle maintenance, but if we fail to care properly for the driver, we’re in trouble. Proverbs 17:22 says a merry heart does good like medicine, but a broken heart dries up the bones. This can mean literal osteoporosis or even bone marrow failure. When you consider blood is manufactured in bone marrow, a broken heart can lead to anemia and even immune failure.
How your body handles the food you give it is directly related to the emotions you’re harboring at the time. Stress, worry, fear, anxiety, all have a negative impact on the organs of digestion. For instance, liver function is impacted by emotions of anger and frustration. The proper release of bile from the gallbladder is influenced by resentment and stubbornness. Even emotional suppression can impair the release of bile, disturbing fat emulsification.
Did you know that impatience, nervousness, and a feeling of being treated unjustly can shut down normal stomach function? Is it any wonder the use of acid blockers is at an all time high? If the stomach shuts down, it’s the equivalent of the carburetor in your car not working. Regardless of the fuel delivered, it can’t be combusted properly.
Your lungs respond to the emotion of grief. Have you noticed the heaviness in your chest after loss of a loved one? That spirit of grief dramatically affects lung function. We can use nutrition to support the healing of the lungs, but if the grieving process never ends, the lungs will continue to manifest pathological changes.
Kidney health can be compromised due to chronic fear issues. In fear, the fight or flight modality continues to drive the adrenal glands which are the controllers of the kidneys. Driving the kidneys hard like this eventually affects the filtering process, leading to elevated blood pressure and the potential of congestive heart failure.
All these organs can tell a story of what’s going on at a higher level. To simply pound out the dents with either pharmaceutical or natural remedies, while ignoring the responsibility of controlling thoughts and emotions is the kind of band-aid therapies commonly used when the cause isn’t readily obvious.
Being happy and content with who you are, and the gifts you’ve been given makes it difficult to wallow in self pity. Giving thanks in all things can actually be one of the best cures for a multitude of conditions. If you’ve found that you’re battling mental and emotional issues in your life, there are resources which can dramatically help you.

Remember when you sit down with family on Thanksgiving to truly give thanks. Just having air to breathe and water to drink is enough to be thankful for.
