I’m sure you’ve heard the scripture which notes that “as a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” Our thought processes play an even greater role than diet. Jesus said that it’s not what goes into the mouth that messes us up, it’s what’s coming out.
Have you ever been around someone with a toxic tongue? Where everything that comes out of their mouth is negative? These people are usually dealing with health problems they continue to feed with their negative emotions. They infect all they’re around. It’s good to be a positive influence on these people if they’ll receive it, but if not, you need to limit your exposure to them. They’re every bit infectious as if they had the flu.
You can tell a lot about a person just by listening to them. Are they complaining all the time, pulling everyone around them down, or are they uplifting, and edifying those around them? Is it all about them, or are they interested in you and your affairs? Just as you need to avoid foods which are toxic, and can poison your body, protect your mind from being poisoned. This includes what you listen to and watch on television.
The stories about people with a serious prognosis, and only weeks to live who went and locked themselves away with all kinds of comedies and laughed themselves well are plentiful. Your body is subservient to your mind, and your mind is programed by what you continually hear and see. If you aren’t happy with where your mind is, change what you listen to and look at. This includes what’s coming out of your own mouth. Sometimes a roll of duct tape is the best thing you could use. If this means changing the people you hang out with, don’t you think changing your environment is worth it to have a healthier life?
I’ve been privileged to spend time each year with members of Chariots of Light. My first impression when meeting up with this group was, “These are the most positive, uplifting, loving people I’ve ever met. Since that time seventeen years ago, I make it a priority to spend at least a week with them, either on the road, or in Texas at the presidents and area leaders conference. Sometimes both. This is a major recharge for my spirit and my soul (mind, will, and emotions). I consider this a critical part of my personal health and my ability to impart this into my patients lives.
Knowing that I must be the best advertisement for what I do, I have to protect all aspects of my health. Last month I got to ride my bike around Crater Lake then down the Redwood highway, eventually through the Napa valley before meeting up with Dr Savelle and the Chariots of Light in the Sacramento area. Getting out and enjoying life is something we all need to do occasionally to remain healthy. Recreation means re-create. Restore your vitality on a regular basis.
While being with Dr Savelle, he taught on what God’s Glory was all about. When Moses asked to see God’s Glory, God showed him His goodness. Whenever we see reference to His Glory we see His presence, power, and goodness.
Dr Savelle suggested every morning upon rising to say, Lord, show me your Glory. I’ve begun to do this, and there isn’t enough room in this letter to share the amazing things that have been happening in my life. As His children, He desires to provide the desires of our hearts when they’re connected to Him. That’s what’s been happening for me. A major desire of sixteen years recently manifested in my life, and I am in excellent health to enjoy it.
So, evaluate your environment. Change what you can. Obviously in work environments with negative people, you need to overdose on positive input to negate what they might be filling you up with. Don’t watch the news. They always overemphasize the negative and will drag you down. Learn to laugh. Sometimes just looking in a mirror is all it takes. It’s been working for me.
