Now that we’ve established that, what does all this gibberish mean? When it says a rare form of myopathy (Myopathy is a disease of the muscle in which the muscle fibers don’t function properly.), I’ve got to dispute their stating rare. I’ve seen far too much of this.
A recent alert on Medscape shows that certain medications have been added to the FDA watch list for potential anaphylaxis, fetal death, and herpes. Upon searching the provided list, the potential damage includes a very long list of drugs with names all ending in the name “statin.”
This isn’t surprising as I’ve dealt with many patients on statin drugs suffering with weakness and muscle pains. The chemicals known as HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors do what the chemists intended to do, Inhibit cellular function.
When the body is overburdened and not functioning properly, shutting it down isn’t the best way to correct the problem. Sometimes it’s far easier to ignore a problem and hope it goes away instead of addressing the issues. We see this in every aspect of life.
What’s seen in this inflammatory activity involves a condition which can ultimately set up an autoimmune response against muscle. if you consider the most important muscles of the body, it can be extremely serious. In the case of our heart, that’s one muscle which needs to remain strong and reliable. When the patient comes in to my office on statin drugs, complaining of weak and painful muscles, my first thought is, what’s the status of their heart? Usually the patient is more aware of muscles like their legs first as being under attack. If they’re complaining about shortness of breath or possibly fluid retention in their legs, both heart and lung function could be compromised.
Considering the abuse of these drugs to protect against stroke and heart attack, I have to question whether the drug is helping or actually opening the door to greater damage. Upon consulting with a medical doctor at the VA, I brought up the abuse of these drugs to him and he agreed that the research drug companies quote concerning the benefit of these drugs have been manufactured. It’s refreshing to find physicians that haven’t been totally brainwashed by the drug companies.
If we are seeing over production of lipids (fats) in the blood stream, we need to investigate the potential of inflammation in the body. The liver will make cholesterol to try and put out the fire. When we ingest foods that cause inflammation in the body like sugars, our liver comes to the rescue by creating what’s known as low density lipoproteins which help to coat the surface of the arteries and veins.
Cholesterol is In a way, a layer of protection against inflammation and irritation which ultimately starts the body’s response of depositing platelets in the area, followed by production of fibrin nets. This is how clots are formed. Cholesterol is the body’s defense against this.
Instead of disabling the fire trucks by using statin drugs, we like to consider the use of a good quality of DHA oils. These can increase HDL levels which assist in bringing the LDL cholesterol back to the liver for processing, and improving overall total blood lipids, including triglyceride levels. Here is where the good fats actually lower the bad fats.
The more I work with patients who’ve been under the care of allopathic physicians for cardiovascular care, the more I see these natural measures not being taught in medical schools. Upon reviewing one of my patient’s records from his MD, it’s interesting to note that even though his lipids are normal, blood pressure excellent, weight down 20 pounds, is on a clean diet, and no more chest pains, the doctor still wants the patient to resume the statin drug. Regardless that in the past, he was experiencing all these muscle symptoms and had to discontinue it back then.
It’s almost a religion among some physicians that everyone must take these drugs or have some kind of unwanted catastrophe, regardless of how totally healthy they are. Patients with the kind of problems these drugs were intended, don’t have a statin deficiency. They have a nutritional imbalance. It’s amazing how common logic fails to kick in when the drug industry does the educating.
I was shocked the other day when I heard of a Naturopathic physician who’s been dispensing statins to their patients. When I can enhance cognitive brain health, protect the heart, reduce inflammation, improve triglycerides and cholesterol levels by including healthy oils and changing their diet and exercise, why should we have to dump potentially damaging chemistry into the system.
